Creative Destruction Lab 2: Growing technology ventures

This experiential course takes place in the context of the Creation Destruction Lab (CDL) - Montreal, an objective-based mentoring program led by accomplished entrepreneurs and investors and centered on fostering the growth of entrepreneurial ventures mobilizing recent technological advances in artificial intelligence and data science. Carefully following the Program's key activities, the course prepares and coaches teams of students as they work on one or more objectives-focused mandates with real-life technological entrepreneurs trying to rapidly grow their venture. The hands-on assignments ask students to work with entrepreneurs to define the mandate's specifics, to agree on a timetable and deliverable(s), to perform the necessary research and analyses, and to write concise, professional quality reports and deliverables.
Themes covered

1. Typical growth challenges of early-stage high-potential technology ventures including:

a. Customer discovery: targeting the right targets;

b. Financial modeling: identifying and fixing the issues;

c. Human capital: assembling and managing a good team;

d. Revenue generation: from pilots to actual sales;

e. Scaling: growing the ventures in all its dimensions.

2. Basic consulting parameters and processes:

a. Defining the mandate;

b. Agreeing on schedule and deliverables;

c. Managing the relationships;

d. Handling client-consultant conflicts;

e. Writing tips for crafting impactful consulting reports.
