Understanding Financing Decisions

FINA 50202A
The course is structured to facilitate understanding of the key financial decisions involved in investment projects (use of financial leverage, international projects, development of options) and corporate financing (capital structure, debt vs. equity, dividends) aimed at maximizing the company's value... while protecting it from the financial risks it faces. This course will enable students to support their business proposals, reflecting their impact on the value of the company as a whole.
Themes covered

1. Know the main theories of firm financing as well as the issues and constraints in the practice of firm financing
2. Be familiar with the different approaches to evaluating investment projects
3. Know how to adapt investment analysis models to the international context
4. Know how to integrate real options into investment project appraisal approaches
5. Decide on the firm's optimal capital structure (debt vs. equity) and establish dividend policy
6. Know the advantages and disadvantages of different sources of capital;7. Know how to assess and manage risk.
