The Future of Work : Rethinking Organisations and Institutions

RHRT 80301A
Work is currently being turned upside down, with major changes affecting how people experience their work, participate in their communities and live their professional lives. Technological transformations, changes in the role of the state, the recasting of company boundaries, the transition to sustainable development, and shifts in identity, solidarity and values are all transforming work. Existing institutions for the regulation of work seem out of synch with the experience of millions of people. These changes also open up space for experimentation. At many levels, in different national, institutional and organizational contexts, and in conditions of uncertainty, social actors (employees, employers, governments, trade unions, etc.) seek to modify and regulate work. This seminar examines how research on employment relations and human resource management help us to grasp the complexity of these changes and seeks to understand the experimentation undertaken at various levels in the world of work.
