CDL Course 1: Introduction to technology entrepreneurship

This experiential course takes place in the context of the Creation Destruction Lab (CDL) - Montreal, an objective-based mentoring program led by accomplished entrepreneurs, investors and scientists, and centered on fostering the growth of entrepreneurial ventures mobilizing recent technological advances in artificial intelligence and data science. Carefully following the Program's key activities, the elective offers MBA students a series of hands-on opportunities to test their mastery of relevant concepts, notions, practices, principles and tools while working on a short objectives-focused mandate with real-life technological entrepreneurs trying to develop their projects. The hands-on assignments ask students to work with entrepreneurs to define the mandate's specifics, agree on a timetable and deliverable, perform the necessary research and analyses, and write concise, professional quality reports and deliverables.

1. The context particularities and challenges of technological entrepreneurship
2. The nature and drivers of disruptive innovation
3. "Lean start-up" "disciplined"; and "effectual" approaches to entrepreneurial development
4. Commercial application of artificial intelligence and data science
5. Customer discovery
6. Basic principles for mobilizing resources and funding start-up efforts
7. The practices of coaching and mentoring with entrepreneurs
8. Basic consulting parameters and processes:
a. Defining the mandate
b. Agreeing on schedure and deliverables
c. Managing the relationships
d. Handling client-consultant conflicts
e. Writing tips for crafting impactful consulting reports
