Exploitation and Exploration of Geospatial Data

Organizations operate in a dynamic global environment. This course aims to develop skills to analyze global transformations using geographical data. The analysis methods will exploit the geographic information systems. Global transformations can be grouped into several categories: global political systems, international trade and finance, global innovation, global value networks, migration flows, and environmental and global health issues. All these categories provide the analytical contexts for both defining and identifying the risks associated with the global transformations for organizations. The data used for the analyzes will be both structured and unstructured and the importance of real-time data will also be highlighted.

The nature of the geographic data and the use of geographic information systems
Introduction to geocoding and georeferencing
Exploration and exploitation of unstructured data such as Twitter patents or satellite images or images produced by drones (geosensing)
Risks related to climate change supply chains
The evolution of political regimes around the world
