Innovation in a Local and Global Context

INTE 60010A
The course addresses the theoretical foundations of innovation by focusing, among other things, on the perspectives related to knowledge and technology in a global economy. The context surrounding innovation will be examined through several dimensions, namely those of the firms, industrial clusters, regional and national innovation systems and the global environment. It will also focus on understanding the global features and challenges of innovation and its spatial manifestations in different geographical contexts. The course then examines the place of innovation in global cities and multinational firms and global value chains. The final section of the course examines the link between innovation and social, economic and environmental change in the global economy.
