Learning and Application of the Scientific Approach in UX

METH 60708A
All students in the UX specialization are required to conduct a research project and write a thesis (24 credits). The objective of this course is to provide some structure and tools to help students plan and develop their M.Sc. thesis work effectively. The course content will oscillate between theory and practice. The theory part will involve reviewing and discussing the research process (e.g., defining and motivating a research problem, positioning it in light of the existing knowledge, envisioning an empirical strategy to address the problem). The practice part will require students' engagement with the research process (e.g., in the context of their own topic). The course will place special emphasis on the research methodologies that are most common in the field of UX (e.g., experiments) and on the application of the scientific approach to translate a practical problem from industry into a rigorously conducted research project.
