Qualitative Research Methods Workshop

METH 80459A
This interactive, workshop-style seminar introduces students to qualitative research methods and approaches most frequently used by authors of studies published in the best academic journals in management. It presents the ontological and epistemological foundations of these approaches and their implications for the collection and analysis of data expressed other than in numerical terms. Students learn to make methodological choices that allow them to conduct high-quality qualitative research that is likely to illuminate the research questions they pose. The most common data collection (interviews, observation, documentary) and analysis (grounded theory, cross-case comparison, discourse analysis) techniques are discussed. Carrying out a concrete and personalized research project step-by-step allows students to put their learning into practice, develop skills in data collection and analysis, and tangibly advance their thesis or other project.
