Transportation Systems

OPER 60502A
More specifically, this course describes the planning and control processes used in freight transportation systems. The emphasis is placed on the following activities: long distance dispatch and transportation planning, freight handling operations in terminals, pick-up and delivery and fleet management. All transportation modes are covered. This course also introduces students to the most relevant decision support tools and technologies which may be used to improve the performance of transportation companies. We also discuss the main strategic issues related to transportation systems such as the use of new technologies, the establishment of partnerships between carriers and shippers, and the trend towards offering integrated logistics services.
